What is an endodontist? An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in the treatment of the nerves of the teeth that have been affected by decay or trauma, which includes evaluation of the nerve of the tooth and surrounding tissues. They typically perform root canal procedures, providing the best level of care for the inner tissue of the teeth referred to as the dental pulp. Endodontists complete four years of dental school, and an additional two or more years of advanced education. Considering the vast amount of nerves in the mouth, many patients are required to see an endodontist for the issues they may be having with their mouth.
